In the contemporary digital era, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming education globally, and Islamic education in Pakistan is no exception. With millions of students enrolled in traditional madrasas, modern Islamic schools, and universities studying the Quran, Hadith, Fiqh, and other religious sciences, the integration of AI-based educational tools presents substantial opportunities. These include personalized and adaptive learning, improved accessibility in remote regions, enhanced teacher support through automation of administrative tasks, and facilitation of research in Islamic studies—such as Tajweed practice, Arabic language instruction, Hadith chain verification, and rapid access to Tafsir resources. Such advancements can bring Pakistani Islamic education closer to international standards, empowering the youth to engage with the modern world while preserving core religious values and spiritual integrity. Nevertheless, this integration poses significant Shariah and ethical challenges, including concerns over the authenticity and verification of information, protection of student privacy, the indispensable role of human teachers in moral and spiritual nurturing, and the potential for misuse or over-reliance on AI. Issuing fatwas or fully depending on AI for religious rulings is impermissible, as it lacks human ijtihad and contextual understanding. This article provides a comprehensive analysis of these opportunities and Shariah boundaries within the Pakistani context, grounded in recent empirical studies and established Islamic jurisprudential principles. It concludes with practical recommendations for a balanced framework that maximizes AI's benefits while ensuring adherence to Shariah, thereby enabling Islamic education to thrive effectively in the modern age.
