Geostrategic, Legal, and Economic Analysis of Pakistan’s Potential Annexation of the Wakhan Corridor for Access to Central Asia

Abstract

The Wakhan Corridor, a narrow stretch of land connecting Afghanistan with China, has long been a region of strategic importance due to its location and role as a geographical bridge between South Asia, Central Asia, and East Asia. For Pakistan, this corridor presents a unique geopolitical opportunity, as it provides a potential access point to Central Asia’s abundant resources, expanding trade routes, and broader economic integration. However, the question remains: should Pakistan annex the Wakhan Corridor? This paper explores the strategic, economic, and geopolitical implications of such an annexation, analyzing the potential benefits, risks, and challenges from multiple angles.
