Epidemic diseases and Islamic teachings: A Jurisprudential and Analytical Study

Abstract

This study describes the Islamic point of views during the pandemic diseases. Throughout human history, pandemics and epidemics gave rise to a wide range of problems and sufferings that had adverse effects on all aspects of life, including the economy, industry, educational institutions, and places of worship. Muslim societies were also inflicted by pandemics many times. They, however, not only struggled hard to remove spiritual causes of these diseases but also paid full attention to their medical treatment. In the light of Islamic teachings, Muslim physicians and scholars conducted extensive research to diagnose these diseases and discover various methods of appropriate medicine and treatment. They also educated and encouraged masses to adopt various precautionary measures. Lasting effects of Muslim scientists’ efforts to save humanity from these pandemics are manifest. However, the contribution of Muslim civilization to the prevention of pandemics has not been properly explored. This research paper aims to fill this gap by highlighting the contribution of Muslim civilization to the prevention and cure of infectious disease.
