Abstract

The flood of Noah is one of the important historical events mentioned in the Holy Quran. Prophet Noah (peace be upon him) called his people to monotheism, piety and obedience to God, but the people continued to deny, associate others with God, rebel and disobey. Ultimately, as a result of their disobedience, Allah Almighty sent down punishment in the form of a flood, in which the infidels drowned, while Prophet Noah (peace be upon him) and the believers were saved by the ark. The Holy Quran does not present the flood event as a mere natural disaster, but rather considers it a punishment decreed by Allah Almighty and the result of people's disobedience. Various modern scientific theories in this regard include the theory of a global flood, the theory of a regional flood, the theory of a great flood in the Black Sea, the theory of floods that occurred after the end of the ice age, and the flood layer discovered in ancient Mesopotamia. The research also shows that modern science and the Quran discuss two different types of questions regarding the flood. The Holy Quran explains the moral, religious and divine reasons for this event. Modern science attributes this flood to material or earthly causes.
