Abstract

Occidentalism refers to the systematic and scholarly study of the Western world, not merely in its geographical sense, but also in its cultural, religious, academic, sociological, philosophical, and colonial dimensions. This field examines the West through an objective and scientific lens, highlighting the need for balanced and critical engagement rather than rejection or neglect. The origins of Occidentalist thought can be traced back to the early Islamic era, particularly in the works of Muslim travelers, historians, and scholars who documented and analyzed Western societies. This study explores the origins, evolution, fundamental domains, and key objectives of Occidentalism. It provides an analytical overview of its major research areas and discusses how the discipline has developed across different historical phases. The findings emphasize the importance of strengthening academic research in the field of Occidentalism to promote deeper understanding and constructive dialogue between civilizations.
